  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 eggs room temperature
  • ½ cup milk whole or any preferred type
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder unsweetened
  • pinch salt optional
For the Labubu Face Frosting:
  • 1 ½ cups unsalted butter room temperature
  • 3 cups powdered sugar sifted
  • 2 tbsp milk adjust for desired consistency
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • as needed food coloring red, beige, black, white
  • optional marshmallows for decoration (teeth, ears, etc.)

Method

  1. Instructions: How to Make Labubu Cake1. Prepare the Cake Batter
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a bowl, mix all the dry ingredients: all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, cocoa powder (if using), and sugar.
In another bowl, whisk the wet ingredients: eggs, softened butter, milk, and vanilla extract.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet, stirring until smooth and lump-free.
Pour the batter into a greased oval or round cake pan (to match Labubu’s head shape).
Bake in the preheated oven for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before decorating.
Once fully cooled, trim the cake into an oval shape with a small dip for the chin. Use a reference image of Labubu to guide your shaping.
Gently brush off crumbs for a smooth surface.
Beat the butter until light and fluffy (about 3–5 minutes).
Slowly add powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time.
Add milk and vanilla extract, then beat again until creamy and pipeable.
Divide the frosting into bowls and add food coloring:
    Beige for the face base
Black for eyes, mouth, and hair
    White for teeth and eyes
Red for cheeks or mouth detail
Apply a thin base coat (crumb coat) using beige frosting over the shaped cake.
Chill for 15–20 minutes to set the base.
Use piping bags with small round tips to add Labubu’s facial features: eyes, hair spikes, toothy smile, etc.
Optional: use mini marshmallows for the teeth or ears.
Chill the finished cake for another 30 minutes before serving to help set the design.
Serve cold or at room temperature—perfect for birthdays, parties, or as a cute surprise!

Notes

  • Customize the Flavor: You can swap cocoa powder for matcha, red velvet, or even instant coffee to create a different base flavor for your Labubu Cake.
  • Frosting Tips: Always chill your frosting slightly before decorating to help maintain clean lines, especially for the face details.
  • Design Shortcut: If you're new to cake decorating, use a printed Labubu face template to guide your piping work.
  • Storage: Store the decorated cake in a cake box in the fridge for up to 3–4 days. Avoid freezing the decorated cake to preserve the details.
  • Tools to Help: Use a small round piping tip, offset spatula, and toothpick for outlining facial features before frosting.
